Do they love you for your character, or for the character you play?

There were rumors -- unsubstantiated rumors -- that might explain your Birthstar's unusual behavior. Rumors that Captain Lou Albano was no mere manager of big-time wrestlers, but an actual sea captain who had raised Cyndi as his own after finding her swaddled in a bassinet in front of his houseboat on the Gowanus Canal. Rumors that Cyndi was a performance artist with a degree in semiotics from Brown who was perpetrating a high-concept put-on inspired by Andys Warhol and Kaufman. Popstrologists lend little credence to either rumor, though, preferring a less dramatic explanation for Cyndi Lauper's impossible Brooklyn-Queens accent, her Betsy Johnson-meets-bag lady fashions, and her initially charming but eventually cringe-inducing embrace of professional wrestling. They see, quite simply, fear. They see Cyndi's fear that her music alone was not enough to sustain her popularity, and her misguided belief that her exaggerated Outerborough persona was the keystone of her success. Strangely Sexy and eccentrically Soulful, your Birthstar might have been more Lasting if she'd possessed the tiniest fraction of Madonna's shape-shiftiness. But, alas, she didn't, and her shtick wore out long before her talent ever did. The world will accept you quirks and all, child of Cyndi Lauper, but always remember: it's the eccentric they love, and not the eccentricities.
