The most effective résumé is the one you never have to bother writing.

In the long history of pop music, no one was ever in a righter place at a righter time than Eva Narcissus Boyd. The future "Little Eva" was seventeen years old and fresh off the turnip truck from North Carolina when a Brooklyn neighbor hooked her up with the gig of a lifetime, working as a nanny for a hardworking Manhattan couple named Gerry Goffin and Carole King. Did the legendary songwriters negotiate the terms of Eva's compensation up front ("We'd like to offer you $35 a week, Eva, plus a week's bonus at Christmas and one ticket to pop immortality"), or did they simply surprise Eva with the biggest tip in the history of the child care industry when they let her earn a few extra bucks by singing the demo for a new song they'd written about a nonexistent dance called the Loco-Motion? When their boss Don Kirshner ended up releasing the demo as a single, he bestowed popstrological immortality upon Little Eva and the dance she invented to fit your Birthsong. Talent and charisma may or may not be part of your genetic mix, but your popstrological heritage certainly bestows upon you something vastly more valuable: a willingness to start at the bottom and an ability to work your way up at breakneck speed.
