You are the flavor of the month who turns out to be vanilla.

Technically speaking, halfway between the moon and New York City puts you approximately 125,000 miles above the earth, in a deep, dark void where the temperature hovers near absolute zero. It's a tough nut to crack, this central metaphor of Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do), until you realize that it can only refer to the hopelessly stranded feeling that overcame your pale and husky Birthstar when he sensed the aesthetic imperatives that this new thing called MTV would be imposing. Indeed, Cross's star burned out well before innovations like Carnie Wilson's Slim-O-Vision made MTV safe for unskinny pop stars, but let us not weep for a man who managed five Grammys, two #1 singles, and one multiplatinum album in the span of just eighteen months. At the apex of his brief career, Christopher Cross was a force of popstrological Freshness every bit as Massive as the Sexy stars of 1980 like Blondie and Kenny Rogers. In fact, Cross was briefly the brightest star in the constellation Lite & White, and if there is a further popstrological explanation to be found for the brevity of his career, it is in the dramatic disappearance of this once-powerful grouping as it was sucked into the maw of the newly dominant constellation Reaganrock. Your Birthstar's career reminds us that nothing lasts forever, and substance will sometimes fail to triumph over style, but those are lessons you've probably learned already.
