Your appeal is as strong as it is unreal.

Simon, the quiet one, and Theodore, the other quiet one, lent the group a certain stability with their calm and steady background presence, but it was Alvin -- irrepressible, ADHD-afflicted Alvin -- whose life-spark made the Chipmunks great. To give sole credit for your Birthstar's considerable success to Alvin, though, would be to ignore the crucial role played by David Seville, the "fourth Chipmunk" and Alvin's long- suffering foil. David Seville, aka Ross Bagdasarian, created the Chipmunks from scratch, fulfilling the helium-induced vision first hinted at in Witch Doctor and launching the first popstrological star in the constellation Artificial Ingredients. But more than that, he stood by his sometimes insufferable creation through all the ups and downs of the decades that followed. Would the Chimpunks have survived the social, political, and musical upheaval of the sixties and seventies with their original lineup intact had Seville not been there to shepherd them through? Sadly, David Seville died before your Birthstar's glorious punk and country reinventions of the 1980s and '90s earned them a spot in the constellation Shape-Shifter, but he surely watched with pride from somewhere as his son and daughter engineered that feat. Let others dismiss you as a lightweight, child of the Chipmunks, for somewhere deep inside your middle-aged skin lies an eternal six-year-old whose unsinkable spirit has seen you through more discouraging attacks than that.
