You're not the type to shirk your duty, but you are the type to cover your *ss.

The son of a Senator's son could choose for himself whether to risk his hide in Vietnam, and a politically ambitious Rhodes Scholar could choose a path that kept his intact while also preserving his future career prospects. But an aspiring pop star with no family connections and no student deferment didn't have the luxury of choice that our forty-fourth and forty-third Presidents had. When Archie Bell of Houston, Texas, got drafted, he knew he'd be putting not only his ass but his future popstrological viability on the line, so before shipping out for combat duty in late 1967, your Birthstar went into the studio for what he knew could be the very last time. Maybe the knowledge that Tighten Up could be his only shot at immortality explains why Archie and his Drells had it all working, but whatever the reason, your Birthstar managed to record one of the funkiest #1 hits of all time that day. As it turned out, Archie Bell did get shot in Vietnam, though fortunately not so badly that it threatened his life. He was laid up in a West German hospital on the day that you were born, enjoying his newfound residence in the constellation Fresh Breeze and perhaps congratulating himself for displaying the good sense he passed down to you of preparing diligently for every contingency -- of planning for the worst when all that others do is hope for the best.
