Start        Birth Years        Birthstars        Constellations

Popstrologists view the Year of Blondie almost as an epoch unto itself -- a too-brief interregnum between the rule of the mighty constellation Disco Ball and the near-total hegemony of the constellation Reaganrock. Opening with KC and the Sunshine Band and Michael Jackson and closing with Kenny Rogers and John Lennon, 1980 saw the birth of a micro-generation more concerned with wild variety than with stable conformity. The last great hurrah of the constellation Lite & White under the leadership of Christopher Cross places certain limits on how far the Blondie generation will follow its naturally adventurous spirit, but the power of Captain and Tennille's Do That To Me One More Time suggests one area in which inhibition clearly will not rule the children of 1980. Still, one cannot ignore the signs in the popstrological firmament of 1980 pointing toward an internal conflict within many of those born in this fascinating year-a conflict between their potential for wild strangeness and their desire to keep that strangeness within commonly accepted limits. Perhaps the one thing on which the children of 1980 can depend is that every powerful instinct they possess, they also have the instinct to suppress.
